Tax Return Preparation

The DGSC has a certified tax consultant to help students with their taxes!

Name: Dan Noble

Charge: Flat rate of $150 per student for all tax-related help (state and federal) for up to 35 Non-Resident students, and $120 per student for over 100 Non-Resident students. The price for students who are US residents/citizens is a flat rate of $75 for up to 35 US residents/citizens, $60 for up to 100 US residents/citizens and $50 for over 100 US residents/citizens. (However, if students' individual tax situation is complicated, and requires significantly more time than a standard return, the amount charged will be determined on a case-by-case basis by Dan).

DGSC Reimbursement: Depending on funds availability, the DGSC is typically able to reimburse 50-100 Graduate Center students each year on a first-come first-served basis for not more than $75 per student for using this consultant.

The co-chair for communications will typically make an announcement in January of each year, with instructions for how to register.

This service includes tax preparation, tax advice, and answering any tax-related questions students might have throughout the year. Please note that the price will remain the same whether the student gets help finalizing documents after uploading them or if they choose to have their questions answered (virtually) while they are preparing the documents. If a student requires help getting an extension on their tax filing, this will be included in the price. Students will also need to show proof of attendance at the Graduate Center.

Alternatively, the IRS' VITA tax program may be able to help.

According to their website

"VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:

  • People who generally make $58,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities; and
  • Limited English-speaking taxpayers"
